Salaks is a locally owned aquaculture company that produces about 15,000 tons of salmon a year.
We are proud of our local owners. We have been producing salmon and creating value in the local community since Odd Bekkeli and his family started the company in 1985.
We currently have about 10 food fishing permits that allow us to produce around 15,000 tonnes of salmon per year. We do this in our eight locations in Salangen, Lavangen, Dyrøy, Sørreisa and Harstad municipalities.
Of our 140 employees, about 60 work with salmon production. We have always been focusing on creating good ripple effects in the local community, which we contribute through being a large and important workplace in the municipality. In addition to producing the salmon, we also create jobs at our own harvesting site and at the hatchery. As far as possible, we use local suppliers.
We are innovation-oriented and quickly adopt new technologies that can improve fish welfare and make our production more sustainable. That is why we have chosen, among other things, to invest in lice lasers in all our locations.
We also operate a teaching permit in cooperation with Senja High School. Through our own development project “FjordMAX” we have also been awarded six development permits.
