Every day, 150,000 meals of salmon come out of our slaughterhouse in Salangen.
The harvesting facilities was established in 1989 is located in Rotvika in the municipality of Salangen. Here we are 30 employees slaughtering about 70,000 salmon a week. We mainly harvest our own fish produced on our sea sites, but we can also take on harvesting commissions from other companies if necessary.
The harvesting of salmon is regulated by the Aquaculture Operations Regulation and the Danish Food Safety Authority oversees the harvesting. It is a requirement that we use ethically sound methods of anaesthesia and euthanasia. The fish should not suffer, it is for us about the best possible fish welfare.
There are also many hygiene requirements for the harvesting process, which is why good and strict routines are important for all tasks inside our harvesting facilities.
A salmon harvesting facility is currently equipped with good aids and automated facilities that take the fish from the waiting cage and into the plant and all the way from harvesting, weighing and to packing and transporting.
The harvesting facility is certified within ASC and GLOBALG.A.P. with Chain of Custody certificates. The certificates help ensure that our supply chain is identifiable and that we have control over the traceability of our products. There are strict requirements for responsible and sustainable production of salmon with a focus on animal welfare, environmental and social conditions. Salaks harvesting facility also has HACCP and FDA approval.
