Every day, 150.000 servings of salmon leave our harvestingsite in Salangen.
The harvest company, established in 1989, is located in Rotvika in the municipality of Salangen. Here, we have 30 employees who harvest approximately 70 000 salmon per week. We primarily harvest our own fish, which are produced at our sea sites, but we can also take on harvesting assignments from other companies as needed.
Harvesting of salmon is regulated by the aquaculture operation regulations, and the Norwegian Food Safety Authority supervises the harvesting. It is a requirement that we use ethically responsible methods of stunning and euthanasia. The fish should not suffer. It is all about achieving the best possible fish welfare for our fish.
There are also many hygiene requirements for the harvesting process, so good and strict routines are important for all tasks inside our site. A salmon harvestingsite today is equipped with good tools and automated facilities that take the fish from the waiting pens and into the facility, and all the way from harvesting, weighing, to packing and transportation.
The site is certified within ASC and GLOBALG.A.P. with Chain of Custody certificates. These certificates help ensure that our supply chain is identifiable, and that we have control over the traceability of our products. There are strict requirements for responsible and sustainable production of salmon, with a focus on animal welfare, environmental, and social aspects. We do also have HACCP and FDA approval.
